Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste Method: Infuse the Milk: Pour the milk into a saucepan. Stud the onion halves with cloves and add them to the milk along with the bay leaf and peppercorns. Heat the milk over medium heat until just before boiling, then reduce the heat and let it simmer gently for 10 minutes to infuse the flavors. Strain the Milk: Remove the saucepan from the heat and strain the milk into a bowl or another saucepan, discarding the onion, bay leaf, cloves, and peppercorns. Add the Bread: Return the infused milk to the pan and add the breadcrumbs. Stir well to combine and let the breadcrumbs soak in the milk for about 5 minutes. Cook the Sauce: Place the pan back on low heat and stir until the mixture thickens to your desired consistency. Add the butter and stir until melted and smooth. Season and Serve: Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Serve warm alongside roast chicken, turkey, or other festive dishes.
